Imagine you have a fancy new website with striking design, spot-on SEO and all the bells and whistles. Now what? Your gut is telling you to leave the site alone … it’s working perfectly, right? Wrong!
Not doing anything to your site after it launches is one of the biggest mistakes a website owner can make. All of the time, money, sweat and tears invested in the creation of your new site cannot and should not go to waste.
So what should you do after your website launches?
Blogging is one of the most valuable and powerful ways to keep your site’s content fresh and up to date. We recommend adding useful, compelling and unique content to your blog at least twice a month. Blogging frequently provides people and search engines a reason to visit and link to your site.

Even the most well designed websites cannot be effective if no one visits them. Share about your site’s new launch through social media and ask your network to help you spread the word about your relaunch.
Also, consider releasing a press release announcing your new or improved site. A press release is free publicity and can improve your SEO. When writing your press release, focus on making it concise, factual and newsworthy.
Guest blogging is another way to publicize your site and gain traffic. Research blogs your target market interacts with and offer to write a guest post (or even better, an ongoing column). Your presence on other blogs will increase your credibility, effectively build links and provide you with targeted exposure.
Actively participating on social media each day will help you stay at the front of your target market’s mind. Hone in on the three most impactful social media platforms for your business, sharing your expertise through links to your blog and site. Don’t be afraid to post helpful articles and tips from other sites as well. This contributes to your trustworthiness and authority in your subject area.
Your local market is important too! Research the best yellow page-style sites in your area and make sure to be present there. Of course, sites like Yelp and other alternatives are essential for your listings too.
Real customer ratings and feedback are more important than ever. Don’t be afraid to ask your customers for reviews and testimonials on your social media sites and other sources such as Yelp or Google Reviews. Customer reviews not only add to your credibility; they are also important for your site’s SEO.
Remember that your new website is only the beginning. The worst thing you can do after your site launches is sit back, relax and wait for visitors to come to you. Put in a little work building your site’s presence and the rewards will be great!
